Our Trustee Positions
As part of the below positions you will also be a Trustee of the MCASS Registered Charity.
President
The role of the president is to guide and offer advice as and when required to the committee. This can be a qualified person or somebody with relevant experience that they can use to help the committee.
Vice President
The Vice President in the absence of the President is responsible for ensuring that they offer advice and guidance when needed to the committee.
Chair
The Chair is responsible for leadership of the society. Everything, which takes place, is a direct reflection of their ability to lead, delegate and manage. To apply for the Chair position, previous experience on the committee is required. The Chair, assisted by the committee, makes sure that an agenda has been set for committee meetings. The Chair then makes sure that the Secretary has sent the committee notice of the meeting, an agenda and any other supporting documents. There are many aims of committee meetings, including passing on news, sharing expertise and experience and having fun. The main aim is to make decisions about how the group is run.
Vice Chair
The Vice Chair will support the chair in all their responsibilities and take an active role in key
decision making when required. The Vice Chair in the absence of the Chair is responsible for
leading Assembly meetings, and ensuring everyone in attendance has an equal say with in the
meeting. They are also responsible for ensuring that the meetings run on time, and that a fair
and balanced debate takes place on all items up for discussion. The Vice Chair, along with the
President and the Chair, is responsible for setting the order of motions to be discussed. In the
absence of the Chair, the Vice Chair will undertake all those tasks listed under the Chair role.
The Vice-Chair will also ensure along with the treasurer that the management accounts are
reconciled on a monthly basis. This role requires commitment and a good understanding of
how the committee operates.
Treasurer
Being Treasurer of the society is a very important role, for the information provided to
other committee members is key to decision making and the future of the society.
The Treasurer is partly responsible for the financial management of the society; this
includes control over the handling and recording of cash received, making payments and the
reporting of these transactions. There will also be support from the ICAEW for this role in
terms of preparing management accounts.
THE TREASURER’S TASKS INCLUDE:
Preparing budgets;
Planning for the society’s financial future;
Monitoring revenue and expenditure;
Helping other committee functional areas with financial matters;
Providing quarterly reports to ICAEW Student Council and being responsible for Event Support Fund (ESF) applications;
Main contact for the Annual Accounts;
Assisting the ICAEW in reconciling the bank each month.
Vice-Treasurer
The Vice-Treasurer will shadow and support the Treasurer with all the tasks listed above. In the
absence of the Treasurer, the Vice-Treasurer will be responsible for all those tasks listed under
the Treasurer role. This role requires organisation, commitment and attention to detail. Ideally,
this will be a more junior member of the committee with plans to move into the full treasurer
role as they progress through their ACA.
Secretary
Specifically it is the Secretary's responsibility:
To schedule committee meetings and provide members with sufficient notice;
To record the minutes of committee meetings (including action points) and distribute
these to committee members in a timely manner following meetings;
To ensure committee meetings are conducted in compliance with the student society’s
constitution;
To arrange for elections to be held each year to enable the Officers and elected members to take office at the conclusion of the annual general meeting of the Society;
To file the annual accounts at the Charity Commission.
Our Non-Trustee Positions
The below positions do not carry trusteeship but are still instrumental in the day-to-day running of the society.
Firm Representative
ACA students who act as a representative for their firm to MCASS:
Share MCASS events with members of their firms
Provide feedback to the committee on events
Be an ambassador for MCASS and represent the ACA students in their firm at MCASS
You do not need to be voted in to this position, please reach out to us at events@mcass.uk if you would like to get involved! We would love to have representatives from as many firms as possible!
Social Media/Networking Secretary
As Social Media/Networking Secretary, you will be responsible for the publishing and promotion of MCASS events on our social media platforms, (Instagram and LinkedIn) and compiling the content for our newsletter. You will be provided with the relevant information to publish from the specific event organiser within the committee and the tools required to easily prepare material to publish. You will also be responsible for maintaining connections with potential sponsors and other relevant local organisations with the help of the wider committee.
Sports & Wellbeing Secretary
The role of Sports & Wellbeing Secretary is to organise our programme of wellbeing events throughout the year with the assistance of the wider committee. This includes fitness classes/events. We are looking for somebody who can bring great ideas with them!
Education & Tuition Provider Secretary
This is a very important role in terms of liaising with the tuition providers; BPP, Kaplan, ACA Simplified and FirstIntuition maintaining our existing relationships. This includes taking a role in the organisation of our revision sessions which we run in partnership with the tuition providers and circulating information about MCASS to the tuition providers to promote the society to their students.
Diversity and Inclusion Secretary
This role involves ensuring that diversity and inclusion is consider across all aspects of MCASS so that we can organise our events and represent our students in a way that nobody feels left out and everybody is catered for. This will involve coordinating with the wider committee on event organisation.
General members
In addition to our roles above, you can also join our committee as a general member. This involves attending committee meetings as and when you are available, helping organise our events and assisting in publicising these events. This is a completely flexible commitment for those who do not want to commit to one of the roles above or would like to get a taste of what being on the MCASS committee is about before committing to a different role.
